Building Confident Swimmers from 6 Months to 12 Years

International Scuba’s Swim Tribe program offers structured swim lessons for children from 6 months through age 12, using SSI (Swim School International) curriculum. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends starting swim lessons for most children around age 1, and our program is built to meet children wherever they are, from first water contact through advanced stroke development.

Parent-child classes introduce water safety habits early and help build comfort in the water from the first session.

All swim classes are available at our Carrollton location only.

Baby Swim Lessons

Baby swim lessons emphasize water comfort, safety, and trust through compassion-based instruction. With a parent or guardian in the water at all times, your child is introduced to the aquatic environment gradually and positively, with no rushing, no forcing, no sink-or-swim approach.

Using positive reinforcement, encouragement, and repetition, lessons focus on:

  • Acclimation to the aquatic environment
  • Supported floating (front and back)
  • Gentle movement and early kicking
  • Early breath control
  • Building confidence and comfort in the water

The trust your child builds with water at this age sets the foundation for everything that follows.

Ages: 0.5 to 3 years | $30.00 group / $60.00 private

Beginner Swim Lessons

Beginner swim lessons are designed for swimmers with little or no previous experience. Whether your child is three years old and brand new to the pool, or an older child who just hasn’t had lessons yet, this is the right starting point.

Instruction focuses on safety, technique, and confidence-building through consistent, performance-based teaching. Swimmers develop:

  • Floating independently (front and back)
  • Kicking with proper technique
  • Breath control and face submersion
  • Body positioning in the water
  • Trust in the instructor and comfort in the pool environment

Advancement is based on demonstrated proficiency, not age or time in the program. A five-year-old and an eight-year-old starting at the same level will advance at their own pace based on what they can actually do, not when they started.

Ages: 3 to 5 years | $30.00 group / $60.00 private

Intermediate Swim Lessons

Intermediate swim lessons build on the foundational skills of the Beginner level, with increased emphasis on stroke technique, breathing mechanics, body position, and coordination. Students at this level are comfortable in the water and ready to start swimming more efficiently.

Instruction is structured and repetition-based, reinforcing proper habits so technique becomes natural rather than forced. Swimmers also begin developing comfort in deeper water while maintaining a strong focus on safety throughout.

Skills developed at the Intermediate level include refined stroke mechanics, improved breathing rhythm, and the coordination needed to swim continuous distances with control.

Ages: 5 to 12 years | $30.00 group / $60.00 private

Advanced Swim Lessons

Advanced swim lessons are for swimmers who demonstrate consistent proficiency across the skills covered in previous levels. This is not an age-gated program. Students are placed based on what they can do, and they advance when they meet clearly defined benchmarks with control and consistency.

Instruction at the Advanced level focuses on:

  • Refining stroke technique across multiple strokes
  • Improving endurance and the ability to sustain swimming over longer distances
  • Advancing stroke skills toward competitive-level form
  • Meeting performance benchmarks with precision and repeatability

Swimmers who complete the Advanced level have real, demonstrable water skills. They are equipped for competitive swim programs, open water environments, and a lifetime of confident swimming.

Ages: 6 to 12 years | $30.00 group / $60.00 private

How Placement Works

Placement is based on demonstrated skills, not age. A six-year-old who has had prior lessons may start at Intermediate. A ten-year-old who has never had formal instruction starts at Beginner. We assess each student and place them where they will make real progress, not where they look right on paper.

If you’re unsure where your child belongs, contact us before registering and we’ll help you figure it out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Contact us and describe your child’s current swimming ability. We place students based on demonstrated skills, and we’d rather have that conversation before registration than after your first class.

It happens regularly, especially with younger children. Our instructors are experienced with nervous swimmers and will never force a skill before a child is ready. Progress is always at the child’s pace, not the curriculum’s pace.

Absolutely. Placement is based on skills, not age. An older child who is new to swimming will always start at Beginner regardless of age, and typically progresses faster than younger students.

A swimsuit, towel, and goggles (recommended for Beginner level and above). For Baby Swim, some parents bring swim diapers for younger children.

For Baby Swim, parents are in the water. For older levels, parents are welcome to observe from poolside.

The standard schedule for Baby and Beginner levels is three times per week (Mon/Wed/Fri). Consistency makes a significant difference in how quickly children develop comfort and skill in the water.

Yes. Private lessons are available at $60 per class across all levels and are a good option for children who need extra attention or have specific skill gaps to work through.

No. All Swim Tribe classes are at the Carrollton location only.
